End of Fall Ball
Updated: Nov 24, 2019
Dear Oregon Lacrosse Families and Friends!
Fall Ball Wrap-Up
As our Fall Ball season wraps up and we get ready for the holidays, I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on what we have been up to. It feels like we just had our first meeting, but we have gotten a lot accomplished over the past 2 months. Roughly 80 players came out for tryouts, so the competition was fierce! It was difficult, but our 52-player roster is set and we are off and running. Fall Ball is when we get to know our teammates, install of our systems, and lay the foundation for our regular season! Rookies and returning players are getting to know each other. We continue to make progress and are counting down the days until our first game in February! This Saturday, November 23rd, we end Fall Ball with the first annual “Quack 7’s Tournament.” This will be an inter-squad 7 vs 7 round robin style tournament. We have drafted four teams, games will be on a smaller field with two condensed running time halves. Tournament champions will be rewarded with steak, 2nd place earns chicken, 3rd burgers and 4th hot dogs which will be awarded at our team barbecue after!
This past weekend, we hosted the first annual Alumni Weekend in program history! We are proud of what we are building and are glad to show players from our past what direction our team is headed. Along with the alumni game, team banquet, and football game, Dave Wyer, Matt Johnson, and Joe Kerwin were inducted into the Oregon Lacrosse Hall of Fame. It was a special moment for alumni and current members of our program. Help us in celebrating these three on their honor! This weekend was also our first Recruiting Weekend of this season. Nine high school players from all over the country spent the weekend in Eugene. Everyone seemed to love what Oregon has to offer and we secured our first two commits for the 2021 season! Thank you to all of the parents and families that joined us this weekend, we appreciate you! Pictures from the festivities are on social media and will be posted on our website soon.
Moving forward, we are looking to form a Parent Board. We have had a few parents reach out and volunteer and we would like to get everyone involved! The support we receive from the outside is vital to the survival of our program, so any assistance is greatly helpful and appreciated. Our goal is to grow a parent board over time to help with things like team meals or tailgates at away games, host families willing to help with housing during travel, help organizing events like Senior Night, or any other fundraising opportunities. Any way you can support is helpful so please don't hesitate to reach out!
Check our social media at @UOLacrosse and our website at www.oregonmenslacrosse.com. Our schedule for the 2020 season will be posted shortly along with other key dates and information. As always, we thank you all for your support and look forward to seeing each of you at a game soon!
